Chuchotage Training For Professional Interpreters
Saturday 28 March 2020

Chuchotage or whispered interpreting is a form of low-voice simultaneous interpreting in which the interpreter sits behind or to one side of one (or more) participants and whispers the interpretation.

AUSIT/NAATI are delivering an all-day training session, presented by Patricia Avila, on the techniques of chuchotage. This training was developed for Professional Interpreters who have applied for transition to the new certification system. You will also get 'a taste of simultaneous interpreting', for those of you who are interested in discovering your own preparedness in this very specialised skill.

Your participation in this Professional Development event counts towards the requirements for those interpreters who are currently qualified as Certified Provisional (CPI) and wish to apply for Certified Interpreter (CI).

Session content:

  •   Definitions and some theory
  •   Settings in which chuchotage is used in community interpreting
  •   Practice in basic simultaneous interpreting (SI) techniques
      - "A TASTE OF SIMULTANEOUS"
  •   Practice of chuchotage in community interpreting settings
  •   Challenges and strategies for overcoming them
  •   Managing the situation and ethical issues
  •   Discussion and feedback
