  NAT - Translation Theories 1
Interactive Seminar (Zoom event)
Saturday 13 June 2020 AEST

EVENT FULL - REGISTRATIONS CLOSED

This interactive seminar is the first in a series of three exploring theories of translation. The series takes a chronological approach and in this first seminar, we will discuss the historical origins of theory in different geographical and cultural contexts and how these have informed and influenced current perspectives. We will also critically examine early and later linguistic theories of translation equivalence as a means of understanding source text/target text correspondence. Discussions will focus on understanding the theories presented, the purpose of theory and how it relates to practice.

NB. This seminar was originally listed as a face-to-face event but had to be rescheduled as a webinar due to COVID-19.

Presenter

Dr Helen Slatyer is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University where she has been teaching translation theory and practice for the past 20 years. Her research has focussed on translator and interpreter testing, pedagogical models for the multilingual delivery of interpreter education and more recently on interactional socio-linguistic analysis of interpreter-mediated communication.

Information on how to join the webinar will be sent to registrants one day before the event.

Please register by CoB Thursday 11 June and install Zoom in advance for an optimal experience.
