NAT:   Portuguese Translators & Interpreters online meeting
Thursday 28 January 2021
7.00pm - 9.00pm AEST (Brisbane/Qld)

REGISTRATIONS CLOSED

AUSIT
would like to invite Portuguese translators and interpreters to a language-specific discussion.

In this interactive session, we will be discussing the complexities and difficulties that arise when translating academic documents. This session will be guided and moderated by Renata Oliveira and Leisa Maia, both NAATI Certified Portuguese to English translators and members of the AUSIT QLD Committee.

Some of the issues that we will discuss are:

  • Should we be worried about ‘equivalency’ or is that a matter for the assessing entity?
  • How to approach conversations with clients when the translator and client doesn’t agree on the translation choice.
  • What are the different ways of translating ‘tecnologo’ and what does ‘tecnologo’ really mean?
  • What is the difference between ‘eletivo’ e ‘optativa’?
  • How should we approach the term ‘lato sensu’?
  • How do we determine the correct translation for ‘professor’? When should we apply ‘teacher’, ‘lecturer’ or ‘professor’?
  • What research options do we have and where can we find information relating to academic terminology?
