NSW Branch Presents: A Step Back to the bigger picture: the changing linguistic landscape of Australia NSW, ACT, QLD & VIC BRANCHES ONLY Live Webinar via Zoom Online Saturday 10 September 202212.30pm - 1.30pm AEST
REGISTRATIONS CLOSED This PD is being presented by the NSW Branch for its own members as well as those of the ACT, QLD and VIC Branches in conjunction with their respective Annual General Meetings on the day. You will need to register separately for your own Branch AGM. This PD session takes a step back from the daily practitioner issues in Interpreting & Translation to look at the evolving language ecology of Australia. It briefly surveys the history of language policy in this country, and uses Census data to show important shifts in the salience of Languages Other than English, and an abiding presence of significant numbers who speak English poorly. It finishes with some ongoing thoughts on both language maintenance and language loss.
