Are you looking to create safe spaces for LGBTIQA+ communities as an interpreter or translator?
Join us for an insightful training session that aims to enhance your awareness and understanding of the diverse experiences and identities within the LGBTIQA+ community. The session will also equip you with the necessary knowledge and tools to provide accurate and respectful translation and interpreting services when working with LGBTIQA+ communities. This training will cover:
An overview of gender-responsive communication; Respectful and accurate LGBTIQA+ terminology; Sensitive use of language for affirming communication on issues relating to LGBTIQA+ communities; Safety practices to foster respect towards the LGBTIQA+ community; Practical real-world scenarios of LGBTIQA+ community members accessing translation and interpreter services; Tools and resources to further support you.
'Lost In Translation’ is delivered through AUSIT’s partnership with ACON. The delivery of this training has also been funded through Multicultural NSW’s Stronger Together Grants Program.
Training Details, 3 sessions, each lasts 2.5 hours Monday, 7 August 5:30 - 8:00 PM AEST Tuesday, 8 August 5:30 - 8:00 PM AEST Wednesday, 9 August 5:30 - 8:00 PM AEST Please note that these are repeated sessions, you only need to register one of them.

Biography - Candela Malizia Candela Malizia is a conference and community interpreter who specialises in gender, communication and human rights, currently based on Yugambeh land (Gold Coast, Queensland). She is an active collaborator on RMIT's LGBTQIA+ glossary project, and has now partnered with AUSIT and ACON NSW to deliver their Lost in Translation workshop series on LGBTQIA+ awareness. Candela is passionate about language and multiculturalism as well as a fierce advocate for equity and human rights, and loves breaking down complex concepts into straightforward messages. Please consult the NAATI Recertification Catalogue to allocate the relevant PD Points - downloadable from www.naati.com.au Some activities can be included under different categories, so please choose the most appropriate category for your recertification purposes. Certificates and recordings Certificates for PD purposes and copies of recordings (if available) may take approximately two (2) weeks to be released following the event.
