This VAD information session is designed to equip our practitioners with the essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively address patient requests related to voluntary assisted dying. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks, as well as best practices for communication and support during these sensitive discussions. The session will enhance practitioners' confidence and competence in navigating these complex conversations. Join us to ensure you are well-prepared to support your patients with compassion and clarity.

Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) is a process that enables a person who is suffering from a terminal medical condition to legally access a substance to end their life, with support and assistance from registered health practitioners.

VAD has been available to Tasmanians since October 2022.

Staff from The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Voluntary Assisted Dying Navigation Service will present a free online information session about VAD for AUSIT interpreters and translators.

Topics Covered will include:

  • A brief background on Voluntary Assisted Dying in Tasmania
  • A state-wide overview of how VAD services operate within the Tasmanian Health Service
  • An explanation of eligibility criteria, the request process and key concepts.
  • Explanations of VAD-specific terminology in Tasmania.
  • The requirements for providing communication assistance to patients and medical practitioners.
  • There will also be an opportunity to ask questions of the VAD Navigation Service.

Thank you to the staff from The Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Voluntary Assisted Dying Navigation Service for presenting this webinar to our Members.
