Zoom online webinar - LIVE Saturday 12 September 2020 (after the AGM) 10.15am - 12.00pm AEST Brisbane
REGISTRATIONS CLOSED
AUSIT QLD will conduct an ethics session immediately after the AGM on 12 September 2020, where real-life “tricky” ethical situations will be discussed to find, if not a “perfect” solution, at least the least damaging solution to these real-life dilemmas.Knowledge of ethics and applying such knowledge to solving ethical challenges in our daily life is “the cherry on top” in terms of rounding ourselves off as truly professional, ethical practitioners. As T/Is in Australia, we have the AUSIT Code of Ethics to refer to when faced with such challenges. However, there are some instances where we would really like to have further insights into the ethics area to solve more difficult dilemmas. Sometimes we might even decide to take “the less damaging” path when confronted with such situations, as no solution may seem to be the ideal one. We are requesting that you put on your thinking cap and email us a real-life problematic situation that you have faced during your day-to-day work as an interpreter and/or translator and that you would like to have discussed during this session. Should you prefer, you can choose to not share your name in the event. Of all the entries we receive, and we hope we get many, we will choose three situations to discuss during the session to explore different ways of solving them and/or give participants ideas on how to go about the process of applying the AUSIT Code of Ethics to real-life challenges. Please contribute REAL-LIFE situations, at this event we will not be discussing hypothetical ones. The three situations to be chosen will be in the following categories:
a) face-to-face interpreting; b) on-the-phone/video interpreting; and c) translation.
Please use this email address: QLD@ausit.org to contribute your situation. The closing date to receive them is 4th September. Thank you in advance for your contribution, and remember: There’s an ‘us’ in ‘AUSIT’, and no ‘them’…. We all are AUSIT!
